Mission Statement

As one of the few urban land trusts in New York City and the United States, The Park Association protects and uses our vest-pocket parks, community gardens and children’s playground to help repair the social fabric of Central Harlem. We strengthen ties between residents of all races, ages, incomes and religions by managing the overall operations of four open space properties for public use by providing critical human services that help fulfill the need 1) for access to lush greenery, lawns, shrubs and trees to escape the asphalt and concrete of the urban environment; 2) for opportunities to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers as an expression of cultural heritage and/or as a healthy pastime activity; 3) for children to have educational and enriching experiences during the summer months in a positive and nurturing environment; and 4) for the overall community to gather on our properties during events and neighborhood meetings.
